Ionospheric anomaly detection and source geolocation over open ocean with GNSS remote sensing

Date(s): Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 12-1PM MT
Location: Virtual

Presenter: Fiona Luhrmann (Oregon State University)

Ionospheric disturbances caused by acoustic waves from seismic events can be measured by GNSS, but detecting these signals can be difficult in remote regions with sparse station coverage. This talk will present a detection algorithm based on unsupervised, deep learning methods that identified and located open ocean M 7.1 and 7.7 earthquakes in the South Pacific using data from five GNSS stations.
