EarthScope Data Services is migrating NSF’s NGF Seismology data products to the AWS cloud as part of our strategic initiative to modernize the data and metadata access capabilities of NSF’s National Geophysical Facility (NSF NGF) in the cloud. This migration consolidates our data products and product repositories under a single, uniform interface, eliminating the need to navigate between multiple legacy sites.
What: Omnibus migration of the following Seismology data products and repositories to a unified, cloud-hosted access point:
- DS Data Products — the catalog of data products currently served from https://ds.iris.edu/ds/products/
- SPUD Product Repository — the Searchable Product Data (SPUD) repository currently served from https://ds.iris.edu/spud/
- EMC Earth Models — the Earth Model Collaboration model repository currently served from https://ds.iris.edu/ds/products/emc-earthmodels/
- EMC Visualization Tools — the interactive model visualization tools (e.g., the horizontal slice viewer) currently served from https://ds.iris.edu/dms/products/emc/horizontalSlice.html
The migration will include the legacy data for the following retired products:
- EQENERGY (Retired June 2026)
- EARS (Retired June 2024)
- Source-Time-Function (STF) (Retired September 2021)
When:
As of August 25, 2026 the products and repositories above are available through the new unified cloud access point. After September 2, 2026, the legacy ds.iris.edu product URLs will redirect automatically to their new locations.
We still recommend updating bookmarks, scripts, and documentation to point directly to the new locations, since automatic redirects are a transitional convenience rather than a permanent feature.
Service Description:
Historically, NSF NGF’s Seismology data products, the SPUD product repository, and the EMC Earth models and visualization tools have each been served from separate locations, requiring users to move between sites to discover and access related resources. This migration brings these capabilities together in the cloud under one entry point, providing uniform, consistent access to products and their associated repositories.
New Unified Access Point: All migrated products and repositories will be available through a single entry point:
https://data.earthscope.org/app/products/portal
From this location, users can access data products, the data repositories, EMC Earth models, and EMC visualization tools.
Products Continuing at EarthScope: EarthScope will continue to serve its event-based data products, with the exception of EQENERGY, EARS, and Source-Time-Function (STF), which have been retired.
